Helicopter View by Google Maps

Helicopter View by Google MapsOnly recently, it has been announced by the Google Inc. that they are now launching a new 3D sense of flying, helicopter view on their Google Maps application.

With the help of this ground-breaking feature, we can now go closer to the ground and fly like a bird, which gives us the sense of being on the air that human being has ever dreamt of. To do so, you actually need to have Google Earth plug-in installed on your platform, laptop, iPhone or something else. So, what’s the point here? It is the point that you will get much more help than ever by this application, Google Maps, while you are still planning to go on a hike, or visiting another parts of your country or the world, meaning that you will experience the roads and area before hands. You not only get the view from mountainous areas, but also from the city centers and other related streets, squares, and so on.

This newly-announced 3D preview option, usually called as “helicopter view”, is thought to be one of the latest experiences by the Google Company. You state the places or name of the places where you would like to go and Google Helicopter View lead you to these points automatically. Just as you jot down the place names, a 3D play button appears and helps your get the wanted destination, so that you can get a short preview of the places that you happen to visit in your future adventures.

As explained in a blog post on August 30, 2011, announced by Google Maps engineer Paul Yang: “Getting directions is one of the most popular features on Google Maps, whether it be for driving, walking, biking or transit. Today, we are launching a new feature that allows you to bring your upcoming trip to life, by allowing you to preview your route in 3D.”

Moreover, you will have some different kinds of transportation such as “by car, by public transport, on walk, or bicycling”. It is also stated in the press release that “Let’s say you’re planning a road trip down the beautiful coast of California’s Highway 1 and want to be able to see what the route really looks like. California’s rugged coastline is not to be missed, but the top-down view really doesn’t give you a good sense of what this majestic terrain is like. Using the 3D preview; however, you can get aerial view of the route, as if you were in a helicopter flying above the road.

This new feature will be available for a limited number of people at the beginning, yet as the time passes by, the number of users will be expanded and much more people will benefit from this feature for free. It is, however, also possible that you get back to 2D view by means of 2D button whenever you want. So, if you are now amongst these lucky people, who are able to make use of 3D view, take a look at the feature and give us the feedback on our comment bar. On the other hand, you can watch a preview of Google Helicopter View by clicking the YouTube video link below. Enjoy your flight!
