True Blood
The series “True Blood” based on the books “The Southern Vampire Mysteries” written by Charlaine Harris.
The series takes place in a world where people and vampires live together after Japanese people produced and launched synthetic blood called “true blood”. While vampires give up with people’s blood, a new trend emerges among people; bleed vampires white. Our main character, Sookie Stackhouse is a young waitress girl with ability of mind reading works in a small town of Louisiana, Bon Temps. One day she meets vampire Bill Compton,who decides to put down roots to her town and because she can’t read his mind, she starts to show interest to him. Anna Paquin who has an Oscar award portrays Sookie and Stephen Moyer portrays Bill. Sam Trammell acts out Sookie’s vampire opponent brother Jason and Rutina Wesley acts out Sookie’s best friend troubled Tara Thornton. The series is featured on HBO, American cable TV.
Boardwalk Empire
“Boardwalk Empire” tells us about the time of “Prohibition of Alcoholic Beverages” when the production and distribution of alcohol was forbidden and the complicated connection between gangsters and politicians. Based on the novel “Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City” by Nelson Johnson, this series reached 5 million televiewer with its first episode which costed 19 million dollars. The series actualised by the producer and scenarist of The Sopranos, Terence Winter. His slogan was “At the time when alcohol was banned, banned people became king.” First episodes of the series were managed by Martin Scorsese. Big guns of this series are Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Michael Shannon and Michael Kenneth Williams. The series is featured on HBO.
Mad Men
Created by Matthew Weiner, the American television drama series Mad Men, featured on AMC, the cable TV channel from USA and Canada. The series takes place in 1960s America and shows us what’s going on in the fictional Sterling Cooper ad agency in New York city. Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the higher up company manager and the people in his life are the characters of the series. Don Draper, the main character is a person who cleaned the slate, lived a lie and although he tries to seem rough and unbending, actually he is a gentle and sorrowful man. The social changes in America from 1960 till today can also be observed by the help of this series. Even the foil characters act perfectly which makes the series puller. The series already had two Golden Globes and six Emmy Awards.
Modern Family
The comedy series which is featured on American ABC television, handles 3 different families and their seperate and together lives. The father of the first family, Jay Pritchett is performed by Ed O’Neill whom we can remember from another series, Married with Children. Jay has a wife who is quite younger from him. And her wife, Gloria has a son called Manny. Jay tries both to be a good fahter for Manny and not to lose his wife.
Our second family is the couple of Phil and Claire Dunphy. Claire is Jay’s natural daughter and Phil is his son in law. Phil and Claire have three children, Haley, Luke and Alex. The biggest problem of the family is their naughty son Luke and Haley and Alex with their boy-friend matters.
Our third family consists of a gay couple; Mitchell and Cameron. This couple adopted a child from Vietnam and now they are ready to make us burst into laughter.
The most popular tv series of these days, Game of Thrones is based on the novel written by George R.R. Martin and is another HBO series. It’s well-known for its story, players and musics. Game of Thrones takes place in a world where the summers lasts for ages and winters never finishes. 7 noble families fight and intrigute politically and sexually in order to control the Legendary Westeros land. Between these families Stark, Lannister and Baratheon families come forward.
Robert Bratheon, the king of Westeros offers his old friend Eddard Stark to be his right hand man. Eddard accepts this offer, because he thinks king’s afore right hand man was killed and he wants to search about this matter. Later it came out that there are more than one families that wants to control the land. Lena Headey portrays The Queen of Seven Kingdom Cersei Lannister and Sean Bean portrays the Lord of Winterfell.
