FIBA (Federation of International Basketball Association) World Championship is the world’s one of most prestigious competitions. Every 4 years this great championship chooses the world’s best team. For the first time, the championship is held in Argentina in 1950 and this year it’s the 16th championship.
The championship will be hosted by Turkey from August 28 to September 12. There are 24 competing nations and of course there are too many different favorites to be the winner of this competition. The qualified teams that have the chance to compete in this amazing tournament are gathered in 4 groups. The games will be played in four different city of Turkey. These cities are; Izmir, İstanbul, Kayseri and Ankara. The list of teams and the cities that will welcome the groups are like this:
Group A: Serbia, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Angola and Jordan. The games of this group will be held in Kayseri Arena- Kayseri.
Group B: USA, Croatia, Slovenia, Brazil, Iran and Tunusia. The games of this group will be held in Apdi Ipekci Arena- İstanbul.
Group C: Greece, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Russia, China and Cote d’lvoire. The games of this group will be held in Ankara Arena- Ankara.
Group D: Spain, France, Canada, Lithuania, New Zealand and Lebanon. The games of this group will be held in Izmir Halkapinar Sport Hall- Izmir.
In the election, the groups which are created by 6 teams will play games with each other. After these games, 4 qualified teams will directly go to the second tour and there comes the quarterfinal, semifinal, third-place game and final.
