Among its kind in Europe, the Notting Hill Carnival is the largest festival that held each August since 1966. When the time arrived, West London becomes the most colorful and most loudy part of the world. Get ready to be surprised with the brightness of the colors and the inviting smells of Caribbean food.
In its first years, The Notting Hill Festival was only a local one, but now this festival become a world wide one attracting millions of people.
So, what can you expect from this festival? First of all a perfect music show is standing nearby. Whatever your music taste is, there is something in this festival for all lovers of calypso sound; ragga, reggae, soca and steelpan.
Aside from music, you will be attracted by the performances held by a large number of players. While you can watch some headline plays you can also have fun with impromptu performers roam the streets. Their different style and creative minds will blow your mind away.
Well, you watched the performances, listened calypso music enough and now you are starving and seeking for something to eat. Don’t worry, you will definitely find more than you expected. Blackened corn on the cob is the festival staple with jerk chicken. The alternatives are curried goat and rice and peas. Savor it!
The most important warning for the participants of this festival is not to enter any pub if you have claustrophobia. The pubs are so crowded that you may find it hard to breath. Another beneficial warning can be about toilets, there is a real long queue.
The Notting Hill Carnival usually gives its start with the steel band competition. Sunday is Kids' Day, there are some awards for different kinds of costumes. On Monday, the main parade takes its place. It generally begins on Great Western Road, then stop by Chepstow Road, on to Westbourne Grove, and then Ladbroke Grove. When the evening comes, streets come cleaner, people rush into Notting Hill Carnival after parties. These parties attracts many visitors with best artists and DJ’s such as DJ Spice New York, DJ DTee or DJ Djahman. After a long and tiring parade, dancing crazily, drink some cold beer and having fun is just what you should do.
The Notting Hill Carnival is arguably London’s most exciting annual event. Millions of people are rushing there by means of sea lane or motor way. The streets get filled with the amusing dancers with extraordinary costumes. And don’t forget, while you are having fun, you can make some money. The streets are conquered with many food and beer seller. If you are willing to have a stall to sell food our ice cold beer, you need to have a trading licence. Be sure that you can earn a serious amount of money.
Note somewhere that this amusing festival gives its start at 29th August and finishes at 30th August 2010. These two days will become the memorable times of your holiday. Take your camera with you in order not to miss any moments of this amusing festival.
